Sensitive and reliable drug residue testing

The term ‘Drug residue’ refers to the small amount of drug (legal or illegal) left behind in animal products after treatment.  This also includes any degradation products which are a direct result of the drugs metabolism.

Since most meat is intended for human consumption many drug residues eventually make their way to the food chain were they can potentially pose a risk to human health.  It is therefore necessary to monitor and detect the use of drug residues to ensure all food of animal origin is safe for consumption.
Drug residues fall into the following categories:
Anabolic Steroids – commonly used to increase the quality and efficiency of meat production or as performance enhancers in horse/dog racing
Antimicrobials – often used in veterinary medicine to treat fungal, bacterial and parasitic infections

Growth Promoters - often used to increase the quality and efficiency of meat production or as a performance enhancer in horse/dog racing

Sensitive, reliable and cost-effective methods of monitoring drug residues are essential to ensure levels remain within the defined limits. Randox produce a large range of drug residue products suitable for the detection of drug abuse in food production, show/competition animals and in sport.
