Rapid, simultaneous detection of 10 STI pathogens

The Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) Array far exceeds other STI tests currently available. It is a highly sensitive and specific Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) amplification assay, coupled with Biochip Array Technology, providing a rapid multiplexing capability.

This array detects the following pathogens

  • Chlamydia trachomonas
  • Neisseria gonorrhoea
  • Trichomonas vaginalis
  • Treponema pallidum (syphilis)
  • Herpes simplex I
  • Herpes simplex II
  • Mycoplasma hominis
  • Mycoplasma genitalium
  • Ureaplasm urealyticum
  • Haemophilus ducreyi

STIs present an increasing challenge to health systems worldwide. Early and correct diagnosis of STIs is important for various factors such as the fact they can lead to other significant health problems including infertility, many infections are asymptomatic and remain undiagnosed, and undiagnosed STIs can increase the risk of uncontrollable spread.

Simultaneous screening for multiple STI pathogens will identify specific viral, protozoan or bacterial pathogens, permitting targeted antibiotic therapy. This will also identify secondary infections, which may otherwise have been missed.

Benefits of the Randox STI Multiplex Array

  • Multiplexing allows for reduced sample requirements
  • Multiple results from a single urine sample or urogenital swab
  • Highly sensitive and specific testing
  • Simultaneously detect bacterial and viral pathogens
  • Improved efficiency in terms of time, labour, reagents and clinical waste
  • Provides a valuable insight into the less well studied STIs
