Key Benefits of the Benzodiazepines reagent
The Gas Chromatography / Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) method is the ‘gold standard’ method in the drugs of abuse testing panel. The Randox Benzodiazepines assay showed a 93.7% correlation using the GC/MS method.
Open vial is stable for 28 days when stored at approximately +10°C
No additional steps required
With the Randox Benzodiazepines assay, no additional steps need to be carried out to enhance the accuracy of results or for optimum performance such as the addition of separate enzymes to enhance sensitivity. Randox provide it all in one vial.

What is the Benzodiazepines assay used for?
What are benzodiazepines?
The benzodiazepine family have a diverse chemical structure which gives rise to a range of physio-chemical and pharmacological properties. In general, they are extensively metabolized by dealkylation, hydroxylation, oxidation and glucuronidation in the liver.
Benzodiazepines are a group of central nervous system (CNS) depressants which induce feelings of calmness, drowsiness, and sleepiness as they act on the central nervous system to produce sedation and muscle relaxation thus lowering anxiety levels. For more information on CNS depressants, please click here [external link]. As benzodiazepines have a lower tendency to potentially cause CNS depressions compared to previous drugs such as barbiturates, benzodiazepines are commonly prescribed for treatment of anxiety, insomnia, panic attacks, panic disorders, muscle relaxation and seizure control. Some of the well-known types of benzodiazepines include diazepam which is also known as valium, temazepam, nitrazepam, and Rohypnol which is widely known as the date-rape drug.
What is the benzodiazepine assay used for?
When benzodiazepines are used recreationally the effects can be sedating and intoxicating, however the consumption of these drugs can lead to numerous health problems including physical and psychological dependence, depression, anxiety and insomnia.
The Randox benzodiazepine assay is used for the qualitative and semi-quantitative detection of Benzodiazepines in human urine.
